We downloaded the 28 app, and took a deep dive into the brand and a few workouts researched and will today be providing an in depth review of everything 28 by Sam Wood has to offer so you can decipher whether it’s the right purchase for you.
Let’s dive in.
Our Experience With 28 By Sam Wood
2020 -2021 have been a bit of a slow burn when it comes to exercise. With gyms opening and closing sporadically due to Covid -19, I think I speak for all of us when I say I need some help staying active.
With minimal equipment at home, I took the plunge and downloaded 28 by Sam Wood. A complete library of home workouts.
From the moment I logged in the warm and inviting layout of the app made it welcoming and enticing to use. Just sign up and you are on your way.
The workouts available come in a wide range of simple and easy to follow 28 minute body weight homework outs.
The workouts ranges from,
- Workout with Sam
- Quick HIIT
- Low Impact
First off we jump straight into a ‘Train with Sam’ session.
The session consisted of a series of basic bodyweight movements you can complete in the comfort of your living room, cadenced by a timer, with the gentle instruction of Sam himself to help guide you through your workout.
This is a great way to jump into the 28 program. The basic exercises in addition to the Sam’s soft, comforting encouragement is a great place for beginners to start.
My favourite exercise component of the 28 platform was the low impact and pregnancy sections.
It is common for fitness platforms to throw you in the deep end and tell you to hold on for dear life. Forcing you to try a series of jumps, dives and everything in between.
So for Sam Wood and his team to take a deep dive into the needs and lifestyle of their users and cater to a people with specific requirements e.g. injury, aging and pregnancy was a real positive.
We had a quick look through the nutritional advice and recipes.
28 offers a library of recipes from Banana Peanut Butter Toast to Skinny Carbonara and Open Beef Burgers, providing you simple ways to adjust family favourites to cut out the fat but not the fun.
28 also has a nutrient breakdown so that you can see exactly what is going into every meal so you can stay on track.
What We Like About 28 By Sam Wood
Warm And Inviting
I found the interface of the app, the colour scheme and the simplicity of the 28 app to be incredibly warm and welcoming. Many fitness platforms are simply databases of workouts for you to wade through or is touted with monstrous, muscle clad men and women that is enough to intimidate even the most experienced athletes. So this was a refreshing change.
Amazing For Beginners
28 By Sam Wood is an amazing tool for beginners trying to take the plunge into exercise without the stress or anxiety of stepping too far out of their comfort zone by going to the gym or playing with weird and confusing equipment. The clear and easy to follow videos and warm feel take a lot of the stress out of exercising.
Great For People Who Are Always On The Go
The 28 By Sam Wood program focusses on 28 minute bodyweight home workouts, making the 28 program the perfect tool for anyone who is time, space or equipment poor.
28 By Sam Wood Limitations
The 28 program offers extremely easy to follow workouts, however they are very basic. I would suggest that most intermediate or advanced users would find some of the workouts a bit easy.
The 28 program does cater to different broad groups of people, however the training is not overly personalized. It is more basic group training class rather than a personal trainer in your pocket.
Many of the big name health and fitness applications these days use algorithms or artificial intelligence to adjust your program to your personal circumstances.
No Free Trial
28 by Sam Wood does NOT offer new members a free trial. In order to experience everything the app has to offer you will need to commit to a one month membership.
A subscription to the 28 by Sam Wood program will cost you around $2 per day or $58.99 per month, this may not sound like a lot but it is!
When compared to other apps in the market like Centr by Chris Hemsworth ($29.99 per month) or Freeletics ($9.89 per month. However, these apps offer a far wider range of workouts, advanced programming, nutritional advice, personalized training programs all for a fraction of the cost.
The Bottom Line
28 By Sam Wood is a digital training and nutrition program designed to help you exercise and stay healthy, anytime, anywhere.
The 28 app is incredibly simple and easy to use and has an incredibly warm and welcoming interface that takes a lot of stress and anxiety out of exercise. This makes 28 an excellent option for beginners trying to take their first steps towards becoming a healthier person.
The 28 program would also be a the perfect companion for people who are time, space and equipment poor trying to stay healthy with limited resources or on the go.
However, the workouts are quite basic, limiting the benefits for more advanced users looking to challenge themselves. And for $58.99 per month, there are several other fitness apps in the market that offer a lot more for a fraction of the price.
