| About Asana Rebel
Asana Rebel is a popular yoga-inspired health & wellness app founded in Berlin, that came to market after seeing the missing pieces that other fitness apps had at the time.
They noticed how most of the popular yoga brands at the time were very ‘spiritual’ and ‘yogi style’, rather than having a focus on the fitness and scientific benefits that yoga brings.
With heavy funding going into research and development, they launched the app in 2015 and have grown year on year.
They now have at least 40 000 new users downloading it each month, over 10 million current users worldwide, and have amassed a base of over 2 million instagram followers!
With such a strong following, it’s clear that Asana Rebel are certainly doing something right, however, since their inception, thousands of other high quality apps have also come to market, which can make it difficult to know which app is actually the right choice for you.
What makes Asana Rebel different is that is their focus is more holistic than other apps, with more of a focus on good habits and healthy lifestyle integration, rather than on specific tracking or hardcore workouts.
But before diving into the Asana Rebel review, it’s important for you to understand what to look for in a fitness app by asking yourself the following questions:
- What is my overall fitness goal?
- What is my current level of fitness?
- What type of training do I prefer?
- How involved do you want to be?
- How much am I willing to invest?
- Do I want to have nutrition included?
Doing so will give you clarity around the best fitness app for you and your current circumstances.
For instance, if your only goal is to prioritise losing weight, you might consider looking at Noom.
Or alternatively, if you want more than just yoga based training, it might be worth checking out an app like Centr, which includes many more types of workouts.
It all comes back to you and what you want out of the app.

How to Sign Up to Asana Rebel
Asana Rebel is known as a freemium application, allowing you to download the app for free and use its basic functionality before making a decision about whether to sign up to premium or not.
In order to download Asana Rebel, you can either search for it on the app store or alternatively you can go directly to their website, where you simply follow the prompts.
When you first download Asana Rebel, you will be guided through a series of questions about your individual circumstances, goals and health, such as:
- What is your gender
- What is your date of birth
- What is your height?
- What is your current fitness level?
- What is your current weight?
- What is your target weight?
From the get go, we observed how generally health focused Asana Rebel is, rather than being about achieving specific, timely goals or counting one’s calories, sets and reps.
For example, you could choose 3 or more of the following goals:
- Lose weight
- Sleep better
- Tight and toned body
- Exercise more effectively
- Build healthy habits
- More energy every day
As you can see, it’s more about the integration of healthy habits into your lifestyle.
At the end of this process, you will be asked if you would like to upgrade to a premium subscription.
If you simply want to try out the app without any financial commitment, be sure to click the “X” button at the top left hand corner of the screen.
The Today Tab
Once you’re all set up, Asana Rebel will populate your custom fitness and nutrition plan.
Depending on the time of the day (morning, lunch, afternoon or evening), the Asana Rebel today tab will display what’s on for that period of the day.
As an example, here’s what was on for my “morning”:
- My daily workout
- A list of different smoothie recipes for me to choose from for breakfast
- Another workout option
- Selection of music tracks
- Quiz of the day
- Small informational blog
The Explore Tab
In the explore tab, you can search for different workout sessions, recipes, meditations and more if you are trying to find something a little more specific or want to change it up from what’s been prescribed to you for the day.
You can also filter by the following categories to narrow down your search.
- Music for focus
The Activity Tab
The activity tab allows you to track your progress over time. The first thing you’ll observe is your streak or ‘active days’, where you can see how many days in a row you’ve engaged with the app.
You’ll also be able to see your calendar and observe your historical engagement and share your success with friends.
Finally, Asana Rebel adds up and lets you see how many minutes of exercise, music, meditation and sleep improvement activities you have done over the last 7, 30 and 90 days as well as all time.
| Asana Rebel Recipes
When signing up, you’ll tell Asana Rebel what your dietary preferences are e.g. vegetarian, vegan etc. and they will populate your diet plan based on your answers.
The Asana Rebel recipes are quite extensive – you can filter by high protein, anti-inflammatory, increase metabolism, boost mental performance, low calorie and many more.
Each recipe will tell you the cooking time, difficulty, the amount of calories each serve contains as well as the cooking instructions.
You cannot see the individual macronutrients of each recipe.
| Asana Rebel Workouts
Asana Rebel workouts are primarily focused on yoga, with elements of bodyweight strength training also involved. You won’t need any equipment except for a yoga mat and occasionally a block or towel.
You can filter by the following categories:
- Get in shape
- Flexibility and mobility
- Breathe and relax
- Balance and focus
- Low/Medium/High Intensity
Workouts vary in duration from around 4 to 30 minutes.
Once you’ve chosen a workout to complete, you’ll see a summary of:
- How long the workout goes for
- The intensity level
- A summary of what to expect
- The workout structure (e.g. warm up, workout, cool down, etc.)
Asana Rebel workouts allow you to skip parts of the workout, such as the intro. They also allow you to change the volume of the instructor and background music.
You can also change the genre of background music to suit your personal preferences, as well as the speed of the workout.
| Asana Rebel Meditations
I am a big fan of meditations myself, so thoroughly enjoyed the meditation aspect of the Asana Rebel app. They vary in duration from several minutes up to 15 minutes.
I also liked how there were also specific meditation collections, such as deep relaxation, anger management or mindful eating. These meditations build on each other and teach you how it can become part of your daily life.
The meditations are less about spirituality and more about the scientific approach of attention training.
On the today tab you’ll find a daily quiz, which educates you about various elements of health, fitness and nutrition based on science.
I really enjoyed this element of Asana Rebel, as it shows that learning about the process of becoming healthier equally as important as doing the work.
This adds to the holistic approach the Asana Rebel adopts.
| Does Asana Rebel Offer a Free Trial?
Asana Rebel is known as a freemium application, which allows you to download and use the app’s basic functionality without having to commit to a financial purchase.
The Asana Rebel free version is, however, very limited and in my opinion, won’t be enough to serve you for more than a few days at the most.
You’ll only be able to complete a handful of workouts and have access to only a few recipes unless you upgrade.
| How Much Is Asana Rebel?
An Asana Rebel subscription varies in price between $4.91 USD and $15.99 USD a month, depending on how long you commit to signing up for.
A month by month membership costs $15.99 USD per month.
An annual membership costs $58.99 USD upfront, which works out to be $4.91 USD per month, saving you almost 70% overall.
Compared to other popular yoga-based apps such as Alo Moves, Asana Rebel is actually very reasonably priced. After all, it’s easy to spend far more than a subscription on daily barista coffee alone.
Asana Rebel also has many other pricing structures on offer throughout the year, such as during promotional periods, however, this is quite rare.
It’s important to keep in mind that prices can change and that you should always clarify the price on the application at the time of download, rather than taking this article’s information as gospel.
| Is Asana Rebel Only Yoga?
Although Asana Rebel does not brand themselves as a yoga app, the workouts are very much centred around the practise of yoga.
Asana Rebel does have some elements of basic bodyweight strength, core training and Pilates, as well as some HIIT, however, these are not the main focus.
In addition to their workouts, Asana Rebel also includes meditation, sleep training and recipes, however, if you want other training types such as weight lifting and strength training, it might be worth checking out Centr, which is very similar but has far more training types.
| Is Asana Rebel Good for Beginners?
Asana Rebel is a great option for beginners, as it focuses more on a holistic approach to health and fitness and doesn’t have very intense workouts compared to other apps like the body coach.
The app is also very straightforward and doesn’t allow you much customisation, which although may seem like a bad thing, actually makes it simple for those just starting out.
If you a beginner who has never done yoga before, you may need to familiarise yourself with a few basic yoga poses before you get started, however, it won’t take long for you to pick it up.
Asana Rebel is great if you’re just getting started and want exercise to become an ongoing habit, however, if you’re looking to get specific results, such as a drastic body transformation, Asana Rebel might not be the best option.

| Asana Rebel Vs. Alo Moves
Asana Rebel is extremely similar to Alo Moves, which are both health & wellness apps with a yoga focus.
A very common question we get is what the differences between them are. The differences are around their pricing, range of classes, and nutrition.
The cost of Alo Moves comes in at between $16.58 – $19.99 USD per month, whereas Asana Rebel is far less expensive, costing between $4.91 USD and $15.99 USD a month.
Range of Classes
In our experience, the range of different classes and skill sessions offered by Alo Moves is far superior to Asana Rebel, which mainly focuses on yoga-based training.
One thing that gives Asana Rebel an advantage is their inclusion of healthy recipes, which is obviously an extremely important aspect of health and fitness which Alo Moves does not address.
However, it still might be worth checking out our review of Alo Moves first, so you can make your own decision.
