Freeletics is a fitness and mindset coaching app. Freeletics combines the simplicity of high intensity body weight exercises with the complexity of artificial intelligence to provide users with a world class 30 minute fitness experience.
Our Experience With Freeletics
When you first download Freeletics you will be taken through a series of basic questions to begin the sign up process (name, age, sex, etc).
From there the Freeletics app takes a deeper dive into your goals, fitness level and preferences.
- What are you top 3 goals?
- What is your fitness level?
- How would you like to train?
- Age, Height & Weight
As you can see, from the start, Freeletics is trying to gather information on your personal circumstances to personalize your coaching and nutrition.
There are three main training programs you can sign up for.
- Weights Free Gain
- Dumbbell Gain
- Hybrid Gain
For the purpose of this review we decided to chose the body weight option, Weights Free Gain.
The Feed Tab provides you with suggested workouts for you to get started. From a quick burst or a longer run.
I tried my hand at Morpheus to get started. A short pyramid workout of pushups, lunges and jumping jack taking less than 10 minutes. I really enjoyed the simplicity. Not only was the workout short but it only required you to learn a few simple exercises.
So many fitness apps seem to throw you in the deep end, assuming you have some level of knowledge, experience, coordination or confidence to be able to find an appropriate workout, teach yourselves the movements and feel comfortable doing so.
Simple workouts like Morpheus that are short in duration and only require a small amount of skill are a refreshing change when trying a new fitness app and is a low bar for entry for absolute beginners.
In the explore tab, you can browse everything fitness.
- Warm Up, Cool Down And Recovery Ideas
- Equipment Specific Workouts
- Body Part Specific Workouts
- Shop For New Equipment
- Search For Workouts Based On Time
- Mindset coaching
- Run and Sprint workouts
The Explore Tab is the perfect place to broaden your horizons and try new things that you can incorporate into your weekly routine.
The Coach is the Freeletics digital personal trainer. We took advantage of their 7-Day Free Trial to give it a go.
The Coach uses the first weeks to push you and test your limits, gauge your fitness and refine your program for your specific circumstances. Allowing you to also adjust it manually if you are feeling overwhelmed or in need of a bit more a challenge.
I personally thought this was outstanding, almost like having your own personal trainer. So many fitness apps just throw you in the deep end or force you to figure out how to get the most out of the app. However, Freeletics Coach guides you from the beginning and grows with you as you become fitter and more confident, responding to your results and feedback and adjusting accordingly and even offering motivational wisdom to help you stay on track.
Freeletics Nutrition is another subscription option for Freeletics members. This will give you access to
Daily food plans, recipes and portion sizes.

What We Like About Freeletics
Huge Variety of Exercise Variation
Freeletics does an excellent job of utilizing a broad range of exercises and workouts and AI technology to help you keep your workouts fresh.
Perfect For When You Are On The Move
Freeletics would be the perfect training option for someone who is constantly on the move. The personalized programs that cater to not only your needs physical but also account for people who want to exercise but are time, space and equipment poor.
Amazing AI Coaching
The AI technology Freeletics uses to personalize your programs and workouts is nothing short of amazing. The way it is able to respond to your feedback and results. This is an excellent option for someone looking for a personal trainer without the cost.
May Be Limited For More Advance Gym Goers
Freeletics offers several different coachings options, and the app does an excellent job of acclimatising your personal circumstances, however the benefits may still be limited for more advanced gym goers due to the high intensity or body weight focus on workouts making really heavy lifting, high resistance workouts that cause the most muscle and strength gain unlikely.
Ads Constantly Popping Up To Sell
At times it felt like I was being bombarded with advertising. Consistently popping up with prompts and advertisements for their paid subscriptions and at times it was quite overwhelming.
The Bottom Line
Freeletics is a personalized digital health and mindset coach in the palm of your hand. Freeletics is great option for people of beginner and intermediate fitness levels looking to kickstart their health and fitness or that need a little bit more guidance.
The AI Coach does an excellent job to not only find you appropriate workouts but also offer words of encouragement and guidance along the way.
Both the free version and the paid version act as an digital personal trainer with the paid version offering you a few more perks however the free version is also great.
We recommend that people who are new to health and fitness and are just trying to kickstart the new lifestyle change sign up for the paid version for a few weeks to help guide you through the forest of barriers that you are likely to face in the first few weeks of exercising.
Then after a few weeks finding your feet, building your confidence, coordination downgrade to the free option and take advantage of all the amazing tools on offer.
