Today, we review Dukes Gym Richmond.
This facility was an absolute delight to work out in – with its warehouse atmosphere, clean layout and breadth of equipment.
If you’re living in or visiting the Richmond area, we highly recommend checking out Dukes.
Let’s dive in.
About Dukes Gym Richmond
Dukes Richmond is located at 99 Murphy St, Richmond, which is a short walk away from the notable Bridge Road and only a 5 minute drive to Melbourne’s CBD. It is one of two locations the Dukes brand has, with the other Abbotsford location also being available to members.
You can check out our full review of the Dukes Brand here.
In today’s piece, we’ll be showcasing the Dukes Gym Richmond location in particular.
Extensive Gym Floor
Dukes Richmond has plenty of room to move – it’s well designed, organised and spaced out. Despite visiting at peak time of the day, it did not feel overcrowded. The main gym floor area is a sizeable ~30m long by 12m wide, an area which majority of commercial gym chains simply do not offer.
Women’s Only Area
One of the most impressive features of Dukes Richmond is their dedicated women’s only area, which in and of itself is a well-resourced stand alone gym with plenty of equipment. You’ll find a squat rack, boxing bag, more lockers, as well as plenty of free weights and machines here.
Seperate Group Fitness Area
Duke’s sports a seperate group fitness area on their second level, which, when not in use, can be accessed by other members who want a little more independence and space. You’ll find more squat racks, benches, free weights, kettlebells and even another cable machine here.
The majority of members at Dukes spend most of their time lifting weights, so owner Jonathan has listened to their wishes, prioritising the weights areas at his facility. In saying this, there are still the ‘big rocks’ cardio machines on site, with steppers, bikes, treadmills, rowing machines and ellipticals available to get your heart rate rocketing.
Free Weights & Weightlifting
Perhaps the most notable aspect of Dukes Richmond is the high quality free weight and weightlifting equipment on offer. There are several benches, dumbbells up to 60kg, multiple squat racks, bars & trap bars – and much more – all neatly kept and intelligently organised.
Lockers & Changerooms
Dukes Richmond has plenty of locker access and their changeroom/shower facilities are spacious, clean and well-kept.
Parking & Access
Dukes Richmond is a short walk away from Bridge Road as well as the Main Yarra Trail, giving you great access to trams and Bike paths in order to easily commute to and from the facility. Dukes also has extensive 2hr free parking up close by if you plan on driving.
If you’ve recently moved into the Richmond area or are simply looking for a new gym to call your second home, we highly recommend Dukes. Sure, you may be able to find a gym that’s a few dollars cheaper each week close by, however, the equipment, support and value you’re getting from a Dukes membership is second to none.
At Get Gym Fit, we’re here to help you navigate the confusing and intimidating experience joining and getting started at the gym can be when you don’t have support or guidance. Dukes is a gym that will do wonders for your fitness journey – you can get started with a membership at Dukes here.
