About Fit Radio
Fit Radio was founded by Russell Greene. Who after years in the night club industry turned his love for music to the digital exercise world, releasing Fit Radio in 2011. Fit Radio was quickly likened to other music streaming giant Spotify directing its focus to the fitness word.
Fit Radio is designed to help ‘increase motivation, stimulate endorphins, and amp workouts’ by providing listeners with high energy music of all genres. Comprising playlists of music in the 120-140 bpm range which is said to prolong users feelings of motivation. Fit Radio also extended their offering to provide users with guided runs and complete workouts programs.

Our Experience With The Body Coach
I have to admit, downloading Fit Radio I did not know what to expect. I have never really been the type of person to get hung up on the type of music they play at the gym. Or having my perfect playlist ready. But I thought I would take a look and see what the fuss is about.
The music tab was just like any other music platform, offering you access to your favourite artists and genres but with a fitness centered focus allowing you to pick playlists designed to match your,
- Training type (cardio, weights, HIT)
- Running Tempo
- Your Mood
- And More
The playlists were upbeat and fun, and there seemed to be an endless supply of music. However, it did lack the customization options that you would get with other streaming platforms like Spotify.
I understand the need to keep it fresh and vibrant but from my experience everyone has a set playlist or set song that gets them pumped up like nothing else. Or makes them feel relaxed and ready to work hard. The purpose of a good playlist is so that you can curate the perfect set list of songs that make you feel good, and can monitor your mood. So not having those customization options to do that was a big pit fall.
The Cardio tab is a simple hub for all the guided cardio workouts that Fit Radio has to offer. Allowing you to pick between
- Training Modality (Treadmill, Bike, Rower ertc)
The guided warm ups are easy to follow and the coaching is simple and high energy, allowing you to pick the genre you want to listen to during the workout. Adding a little bit of motivation to your workout. However, Fit Radio does not seem to offer the same level of control you might find with other streaming apps making it frustrating when you can not find a playlist that you like.
The Fit Radio Strength tab is by far my favourite feature. Allowing users to select between single workouts in they are in a rush or complete programs if they knuckling down and trying to smash some goals.
- Build & Burn
- Don’t Skip Legs
- Chest And Back
- Accelerate ‘Drop Your Race Times’
- Assault Shred ‘6 Weeks To Gain Lean Mass’
- HIIT With Hannah#
- Dynamic Dad ‘Workouts For Busy Dads’
Allowing you to specific the trainer, goal and muscle groups you want to work on. I have to admit, I am pleasantly surprised by these programs. I did not expect so much depth and variety from a fitness app that is centered around music. It is rare for fitness apps to provide fitness apps to provide users with such in depth programs.
What We Like About Fit Radio
Fit Radio is great value for money. Not only does it offer a great range of music but audio guided runs and complete workout programs for as little as $2 USD per week. Fit Radio Limitations Limited Playlist Customization The Bottom Line Is it worth it?
Awesome Complete Programs
It is common for fitness apps to offer one off fitness classes. So for a fitness app centered around music and motivation to deliver complete fitness programs not just one off workouts was a big surprise and a massive bonus.
Fit Radio Limitations
Fit Radio was dynamic and vibrant, with an extensive library of music and training options however there is very little guidance or direction making it quite overwhelming to use.
Lacks Customization Options
The Fit Radio playlists are fun and upbeat, always offering you new cool playlists. However, it lacks the ability to customize and make your own playlist. There are times when you want to listen to something new and cool. But there are also times when you want to listen to your favourites.
DJ And EDM Focused
Although Fit Radio offers a wide range of music there is a focus on DJ’s, EDM and club style playlists so if those genres are not your cup of tea then this might not be the app for you.
Fit Radio The Bottom Line
Fit Radio is a digital fitness platform that provides users with carefully curated soundtracks, guided runs and workout programs designed to help ‘increase motivation, stimulate endorphins, and amp workouts’ by providing listeners with high energy music of all genres.
Is Fit Radio worth it?
Yes, Fit Radio offers an upbeat Fitness experience offering great workout programs and guided runs and an extensive range of music options. Fit Radio would be great for anyone new to fitness looking for guidance and motivation without the price tag.
However, Fit Radio is limited by its DJ/EDM focus combined with its lack of customization options when you compare it to other music streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. This can make it difficult to find the right group of songs that you want to listen too.
Although I really enjoyed my Fit Radio experience, I found that it provided a solid musical and exercise experience but it did not nail either. So if you are looking for an absolutely world class musical experience you might be better off forking out an extra couple of dollars per week for a higher quality, more complete product.
