Our Experience With Fitness Coach
When you download Fitness Coach, you will be guided through a short questionnaire about your personal circumstances and preferences (goals, motivations, training types, focus areas etc.). From the beginning it was clear that Fitness Coach was focuses on personalising your experience and helping you make tangible progress towards your goals. Fitness Coach uses your responses to the questionnaire to create a tailored program, that accommodates to your lifestyle, breaking your big goals into more achievable daily goals.
For example, my daily goals were:
- Exercise 4 times per week
- Burn at least 2,660 calories per week
- Drink 3.3L of water per day
- Make at least 12,000 steps per day
This is a similar system that you would complete with a real life personal trainer.
Once you are set up, Fitness Coach will lead you to your training plan.
Here you will be given access to your weekly program, daily workouts and additional training sessions.
You will also have access to the Fitness Coach water and steps tracker, giving you a simple way to track your progress to your daily and weekly targets.
Fitness Coach offers a range of 30 day fitness challenges to help you kickstart your fitness journey.
Fitness Coach 30 day challenges include:
- Back To Workout Challenge
- Burpee Challenge
- Plank Challenge
- Squat Challenge
We tried the Back To Workout challenge. Each day you are given a short workout.
The Back To Workout challenge was simple series of exercises that would be great for beginners, helping people slowly implement more exercise into their daily routine.
In the workouts tab, you can head to the spotlight tab, and check out what is trending or you can scroll through the Fitness Coach workout library at your leisure.
Fitness Coach workouts are primarily centered around resistance and HIIT workouts.
You will not need much equipment to get started except for maybe a few dumbbells, resistance bands and a yoga mat.
Fitness Coach Workouts
Each Fitness Coach workouts is outlined briefly before you get started. That way you know exactly what equipment, exercises and pain you are getting yourself into before you take the plunge.
The Fitness Coach workouts are categorised to help you find exactly what you are looking for with ease. Workout categories include:
- Focus Zones (Glutes, Abs, Arms, Chest etc.)
- Workouts types (Strength, Hiit, Tabatta, AMRAP etc.)
The Fitness Coach workouts are well produced and easy to follow with your standard combination of video demonstration and timer. But what Fitness Coach is lacking is any form of ongoing coaching throughout the session or focus on technical cues.
It may not seem like much but many people need to be reminded what to do in more detail.
When you head to the meals tab for the first time, you will be asked to choose your preferred diet. You have four options to pick from.
- Regular (Meat, vegetables etc.)
- Flexitarian (Limited Meat Consumption)

Fitness Coach Limitations
No Coaching Or Technical Cues
The Fitness Coach workouts are well produced and easy to follow, but they lack any form of coaching or focus on technical cues which is essential to helping users perform each exercise with proper, safe technique.
Limited Meal Plan Customisation
The Fitness Coach meal plans lack customisation options which have become a must in the fitness app industry.

Does the Fitness Coach app really work?
Fitness Coach is a great tool for beginners to lose weight, get fit and stay healthy. The tailored fitness programs and meal plans and achievable weekly and daily goals in combination with smooth interface of the app makes Fitness Coach a great tool to help fitness beginners develop healthy habits and a positive relationship with health and fitness.
However, Fitness Coach is limited as it does offer limited coaching and technical cues during wokrouts. Which may deter users who require more hands on coaching. And the Fitness Coach meal plans lack the ability to customise your meal plan which may deter users with more.
