FitOn is a budget-friendly, celebrity-lead, weight-loss centric workout app that’s amassed an insane 6 million members and an average of 5 stars from 200,000+ reviews on the app store.
But behind the celebrity names, is FitOn all it’s cracked up to be? And is it ACTUALLY free?
FitOn is an extremely useful tool for beginner or intermediate users to gain access to an abundance of ad-free, exceptional quality workouts completely for free. However, the app may be limited for advanced users wanting more specific programs such as strength training with weights.
We downloaded the FitOn app, took a deep dive into the brand, got stuck into the workouts and will today be providing an in depth review of everything FitOn has to offer.
So you can evaluate whether it’s the right fit for you.
Here’s everything we’ll be covering in our FitOn review:
- What is FitOn?
- How to Use FitOn
- Is FitOn actually free?
- How does FitOn make money?
- Is FitOn Pro worth it?
- FitOn Pros
- FitOn Cons
Let’s dive in.
Whether you’re taking multiple kids to soccer practice.
Working long hours to get ahead in your career.
Or simply trying to get some sort of social life…
Life in 2022 is BUSSSSYYY!!!
Hell, with all the commitments we have, how on earth does anyone find time to go for a 10 minute walk? ….
… Let alone make it to the gym or a yoga class.
This is a dilemma Linday Cook, founder CEO of FitOn, identified during her time working at FitBit.
As her career developed, Lindsay found it more and more difficult to make time to get into her favourite fitness studio and stay active.
And she wasn’t alone.
As a result, Lindsay ventured online to for assistance, in search of practical, easily accessible workouts she could do on the go
Except, she found herself disappointed by the quality of the online resources available.
Inspired, Lindsay founded the app FitOn in 2018.
What is the FitOn App?
FitOn is an app that gives everyday people access to world-class trainers, rich content and engaging and easy to use tools to help them achieve their fitness goals…
ALL, FOR, FREE!
Yep, that’s right.
Although FitOn does offer a premium version of the app (more on this later)..
Almost all of the significant functionality that FitOn offers won’t cost you anything.
Which is probably why the application has become so popular, amassing an insane 6 million users worldwide and an average of 5 stars from 200,000+ reviews on the app store.
FitOn gives you access to a variety of exceptional quality, ad free workout videos of different training types, including:
- Meditation and more.
Founder Lindsay Cook describes FitOn as being “real-time guidance with amazing celebrity trainers and the experience of group fitness classes that you can do when you are time constrained and can’t always make it to the gym”.
But before diving into the FitOn review, it’s important for you to understand what to look for in a fitness app by asking yourself the following questions:
- What is my overall fitness goal?
- What is my current level of fitness?
- What type of training do I prefer?
- How involved do you want to be?
- How much am I willing to invest?
- Do I want to have nutrition included?
Doing so will give you clarity around the best fitness app for you and your current circumstances.
For instance, if your only goal is to prioritise losing weight, you might consider looking at Noom.
Or alternatively, if you want an app that’s more geared towards strength training , it might be worth checking out an app like Centr.
It all comes back to you and what you want out of the app.
Our Experience With FitOn
From the moment you entered the app store and selected FitOn and opened the app, you could tell that FitOn had a certain level of glamour that other apps simply don’t.
The bright pink colours, the beautiful people, the high quality video.
For You Tab
First up is the ‘For You’ tab.
Like any other social platform, the For You tab acts a hub for all the information you need to have a successful relationship with FitOn.
- Recommended Workouts
- Your Favourite Workouts
- Whats Hot & New
- Stretching Workouts
- Game On – Workout To Win
I particularly likes the suggested ‘Revitalize’ program.
This is an eight week workout program that gives you a little bit of a taste of everything that FitOn has to offer.
Helping new users to test and try different sessions and different trainings to see what they prefer.
And giving you a little bit of guidance of where and how to utilise this abundance of information.
Next up, the ‘Workouts’ tab.
Now I have to say, although the design and the imagery of this slide is amazing.
I did find it a little overwhelming.
With an abundance of buttons, courses and workouts, it was hard to know where to start or what would be the best workout for me.
Did I want to do some strength work, or some Yoga?
Do I start with a full program or a simple workout?
And that is coming from the eyes of a fitness professional.
So for a newcomer this page might be a little much.
However, after a few deeps breaths and a few minutes looking through some of the workouts and information, it was clear that FitOn is overflowing with valuable information, with nearly every type of workout you could think of!
FitOn even goes as far as to let you refine your workout search by duration, intensity and trainer, allowing you to find just the right workout for you.
Now to the ‘Advice’ tab.
The FitOn advice tab offers a range of simple and easy to follow guides for beginners, who are just starting their journey to becoming a healthier person.
Breaking down their information in to four clear sections:
- Self Care
Although this section is clear and easy to follow, it is lacking any form of search bar.
Preventing you from really taking deep dive into their database of information.
And making it difficult to find any specific answers you are looking for.
I personally think this tab could really benefit from a simple search function so that users can really understand the ‘Why’ behind their decisions to really get the most out of the FitOn platform.
Entering the meals tab for the first time presents you with a series of questions around your diet and the struggles you face when trying to eat healthy.
FitOn asks you:
- How many meals do you eat per day?
- What type of diet do you follow?
- What foods do you struggle with?
- What holds you back from eating healthy?
This may not seem like much but this is valuable information when combating bad habits and developing good habits.
After you have answered these questions, FitOn will generate a food plan for your personal circumstances.
You can also use this tab to access your personalised meal plan or to simply browse their database for new healthy food options to spice up your meal plan.
To access the complete meal plans and recipes you will be required to sign up for FitOn Pro. However, the meal plans and food options were quite in depth with a variety of food options.
However, I think that the meal plans may be unrealistic for some people who a new to the world of health and fitness.
In my experience one of the main issues with eating healthy and being consistent is not having the time or know how cook healthy nutrition food consistently.
Although FitOn provide a wide range of recipe ideas and an in depth food plan, I do not think it will be achievable for your average joe.
I think the meals tab will be best utilised by helping people outline their meal plan (e.g. 3 meals per day), then allowing users to find a handful of recipes they like and that they like and can see themselves eating consistently.
The friends tab is possibly my favourite section of the FitOn app.
The function is simple but extremely powerful. The friends tab offers you a social media like place to connect with your friends and other users, express your struggles and share your triumphs.
When you are starting anything new, you are delicate, and the slightest bit of criticism can knock you off course. Far too delicate for the worlds of social media.
The friends tab allows you to curate a safe and empowering list of friends who are on the same journey as you to build each other up rather than pull each other down. And I think this is an invaluable part of the FitOn platform.
Is FitOn Actually free?
With such a value packed app marketed as being free, it makes you start to feel a little suspicious.
So, is FitOn actually free? Or are they trying to get you in the door just to sell you something later on?
FitOn is free for the majority of the app’s functionality, including almost all of their workouts, basic recipes and their community.
Compared to other apps that give you basic functionality for free (known as freemium apps), FitOn is absolutely the highest value and capability for no cost.
It’s definitely worth downloading and will give you months worth of free workouts without the ads!
How does FitOn Make Money?
FitOn Makes money through their Pro subscription,
How Much is FitOn Pro?
An annual subscription of FitOn pro costs $29.99 USD, which works out to be $2.49 USD per month.
Compared to other workout apps, this is perhaps one of the most affordable we have seen.
Is FitOn Pro Worth it?
Whether FitOn Pro is worth it or not really comes down to your individual circumstances and fitness ambitions.
Currently, FitOn Pro gives you:
- Unlimited workout programs
- Personalised meal plans
- 500+ exclusive recipes
- Unlimited offline downloads
- FitBit and Garmin integration
- Premium music from top artists
If you’ve been using the FitOn app for several weeks or months, thoroughly enjoying your experience and feel like the app’s free version is limiting, it might be time to consider upgrading.
What We Like About FitOn
High Quality Content
There is no denying that the production value of the FitOn app is impeccable. The colour scheme, the style, the video and sound quality, the coaches.
There’s also an abundance of different training types and workouts on offer all for free.
The programming is more advanced than a lot of fitness apps. FitOn offers programs that span several weeks, whereas many fitness platforms out there only offer a library of standalone workouts that users have to piece together themselves.
Great Beginner Program
The beginner ‘Revitalize’ program when I first opened the FitOn app was amazing. It was an 8 week program, with 2 workouts per week that gives you a taste of everything the FitOn platform has to offer in a reasonable and manageable timeframe.
The FitOn app is overall extremely welcoming. However, the combination of the fast paced sleek design, the seemingly endless array of workouts, clad with some of your favourite celebrities may be enough to send some newcomers into a bit a of a tailspin.
Advice Tab Has No Search Function
The advice page offers a clear and concise breakdown of all the different pillars of the FitOn program. However, without a basic search function you are unable to utilize their database of information and limited to the information and articles they suggest.
The Bottom Line
FitOn is a digital fitness platform that offering users access to world-class trainers, rich content and engaging and easy to use tools no matter what life throws their way.
Newcomers may find the FitOn platform to be intimidating or overwhelming at first, however I implore you to push through and give it a crack.
Their Revitalize program is a great way to kickstart your health and fitness journey, their library of blogs is full of invaluable tips and tricks and their nutritional advice and recipes are high quality.
FitOn is an extremely useful tool for beginner or intermediate users trying to stay fit and healthy, as they deliver on their promise of a delivering rich engaging high quality content bought to you by world class trainers.
