ROMWOD, one of the hottest new things in health and wellness. Providing users with daily stretching videos featuring a variety of the worlds big name athletes, helping users increase range of motion, improve their performance and promote recovery.
We downloaded the ROMWOD app, researching the brand and getting stuck into the workouts and will today be providing an in depth review of everything ROMWOD has to offer.
ROMWOD is a health and wellbeing app started in by brothers Jeremiah and Daniel Head and their partners Shawna and Tiffany.
ROMWOD or Range of Motion Workout of the Day’ is a play on the ‘Workout of the Day’ concept commonly used in CrossFit with a focus on flexibility and mobility movements.
ROMWOD started simply when Jeremiah Head, a passionate CrossFit lover, found himself struggling to perform some of the exercises required to compete in CrossFit competitions because of his lack of flexibility. Daniel then stepped in prescribing several Yoga positions to increase his range of motion.
Not long after Jeremiah found his flexibility improving and with that so did his performance. And just like that ROMWOD was born.
Offering users a new workouts each day to improve users range of motion and flexibility.
Our Experience With ROMWOD
When you first download ROMWOD, you will be guided thorugh a basic sign up process and be required to pick a subscription type. For the purpose of this review we utilized their 7-Day Free Trial.
First off, the Dashboard Tab. The Dashboard acts as your weekly newsfeed. A place where you can find your daily recommended stretching workout as well as your favourite workouts from previous weeks.
The Dashboard Tab also offers beginners the opportunity to join their ‘Welcome Series’. A seven set of stretching programs to help you kickstart your ROMWOD journey.
The ‘Explore Tab’ is exactly that. I simple function allowing you to wade through the ROMWOD database and find your favourite routines, coaches and programs to implement into your routine.
My personal favourite part of the Explore Tab is the ‘Test Your Mobility’ function. Although it is only in the beta stages of development currently this is an awesome tool. The mobility tester gives you a series of movements designed to challenge your flexibility, stability and mobility. Allowing you to either film yourself to be graded or wrangle in the keen eye of a friend to help you along.
This is an incredibly valuable tool as it allows you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and implement specific strategies or workouts to improve those areas, allowing you to track your progress.
The ‘Paths Tab’ offers users free reign at all the programs that ROMWOD have to offer. These programs focus on different exercises, movements and muscle groups depending what your goals are. These include,
- Hip Flexor Fix
- Desk Job Hero
- Ready To Run
- Explosive Athlete
- Improved Sleep
What We Like About ROMWOD
It Delivers On It’s Promise
It is a simple premise but they knock it out of the park. ROMWOD offer you daily stretching and mobility workouts to help improve your flexibility, mobility, health, wellbeing and performance.
Test Your Mobility Function
The Test your mobility function may only be in the beta stages of development but it is an awesome initiative. A large part of the battle with improving your health and fitness is understanding where the goals. And this gives you are clearly outlined set of goals to aim for.
The workouts can range anywhere from 15 minutes to 50 minutes in length. This is limiting because some people may find stretching for this length of time to be monotonous. And more importantly, if you are using ROMWOD as a warm up or cool down, you will also need to complete your actual workout for the day, and I would say most people would struggle to commit 50 minutes to a mobility workout in addition to their regular exercise routine.
Only Covers Range of Motion
ROMWOD does an excellent job of offering daily range of motion workouts. However, there are many other health and fitness apps that offer you stretching and mobility workouts as well as programming the rest of your exercising routine.
The Bottom Line
ROMWOD is a subscription based digital health and wellbeing platform offering users a ‘Range of Motion Workout of the Day’. ROMWOD combines the yoga exercises with the ‘Workout of the Day’ practice commonly found in CrossFit circles to offer you workouts to increase your range of motion, optimize athletic performance and promote recovery.
Regularly completing ROMWOD workouts will improve your range of motion and have an onflow of effects to your performance and overall wellbeing. However, if you are in need of a stretching and mobility coach there are a number of other digital platforms that offer you yoga and mobility workouts as well as a combination of resistance workouts and nutritional advice.
ROMWOD is an excellent option for absolute beginners looking for a soft entry into the world of fitness. ROMWOD will also be useful for more advanced and more fit individuals who have a well rounded fitness program but are struggling to find ways to improve their mobility and recover effectively.
