About The Body CoachThe Body Coach is affectionately named after Joseph Trevor Wicks who coined the name as he began his online coaching career releasing 15 second high intensity workout and recipe videos on social media. Wick quickly became one of the most followed fitness influencers publishing his first book ‘Lean in 15:15-minute meals‘ which hit best seller status, selling 900,000 copies world wide. Since then he has released 9 more books and his widely popular ’90 Day Plan. Most recently taking his talents back to YouTube in his ‘PE with Joe’ series, your online physical education teacher. In an effort to help kids stay active during the covid-19 pandemic. Finally, after the booming success of his 90 day challenge selling over 600,000, Wick decided to put all the knowledge and information of the 90 day challenge in one easy to use package. Your Plan TabThe Your Plan tab is where you will spend the majority of your time in the Body Coach app. This is where you will find your personalized training and meal plans.
The WorkoutsThe Body Coach workouts are 25 minute high intensity body weight sessions. The beginner program prescribed 5 sessions per week to start with reccommended warm ups and cool downs you can do in your own time or that you can skip if you are in a rush. The workouts were simple, mostly consisting of Joe and a yoga mat consisting of short intervals of rest and work. The workouts were quite fun and interactive, however, as is the way with a lot of HIT based workouts some of the exercises are bit fluffy, to help keep it fresh and fun.
What can I eat on The Body Coach diet?The Body Coach prides itself on being tailored to the individual offering vegetarian and vegan meal plans. Recipes include;
- Mango and Ginger Smoothie
- Malteses Smoothie
- Blueberry French Toast
- Almond and Honey Pancakes with Blueberries
- Halloumi Burger with Chilli and Mint
- Beef Jerky
- Fresh Fruit
- and much more
What We Like About The Body Coach
Great Structure And Regular Check-insThe structure of the Body Coach programs is simple. You are not overwhelmed with options or programs. You have one personalized for you. With regular checks in every 4 weeks to track your progress and refine your program. Just like having a real personal trainer in your pocket.
Engaging, Welcoming And InteractiveThe Body Coach app is engaging and interactive. The soft colour palette combined with Joe’s friendly face make using the app warm and inviting. And the basic planner tools and pop ups explaining the reasoning and structure behind your program and meal plan make you feel in control of your journey.
It Takes Into Account Your Personal Circumstances Like No OtherMany apps have a questionnaire before you sign up. Height, weight, training history etc. However, Body Coach goes deeper. Enquiring about your your nature of your work, chronic illness history and helps you monitor your water intake. Which are three things that are very important in any fitness journey but are often overlooked by fitness apps.
The Body Coach Limitations
High Workload WorkoutsThe beginner program prescribed 4-5 workouts per week. In my experience this is too high. It is not only a lot of load and stress to put the body under with minimal time to recover but it is simply hard as a beginner to find the time train 4-5 times per week.
Only Offers High Intensity Body Weight WorkoutsThere are many benefits to body weight HIT workouts, however completing HIT workouts several times per week can be extremely taxing depending on the nature of the workouts as they are typically more dynamic with greater volumes of jumping and other high impact movements.
Some Of The Exercises Are Kind Of FluffyBody Coach does a great job of offering users a fun and interactive experience. However, in order to keep the workouts fresh, fun and full of variety you have to add a few quirky exercises. So do not be shocked if you find yourself doing some weird moves.
Limited For More Advanced TrainersBody Coach is not for more advanced gym goers. It offers a simple and interactive experience to help new users kickstart their health and fitness. However, as users progress and if advanced gym goers are thinking about signing up. They might be need to look elsewhere to get their moneys worth.
The Bottom Line
But does the Body Coach program work? And is it worth it?Yes, the Body Coach app provides users with a warm, welcoming and simple fitness experience that really cares and takes time to identify different things that people struggling with on an individual level, from water intake to chronic disease. The straight forward workout out programs filled with short 25 minute HIT workouts are great for beginner, giving new comers achievable workouts to complete from the comfort of their homes without the stress and anxiety that comes from joining the gym. The easy to follow meal plans are realistic and don’t require you to starve yourself to see any results.
