Our Experience With Weight Watchers
Signing up to Weight Watchers you will be required to complete a brief questionnaire about your health, diet and lifestyle. Weight Watchers will then use the information you provide to create a weight loss program tailored to your needs. Weight Watchers uses a points scoring system to help you stay on top of your workout and diet regime. Alotting you a set budget of points to spend each day. You can add to your daily budget by completing tasks including walking, drinking water or eating non starchy vegetables and you can spend your daily budget on foods. Weight Watchers also gives you a range of foods that will not cost you any precious points, so you never have to go hungry or feel guilty for sneaking an extra snack throughout the day. 0 Points = Healthy Foods (e.g. Oats and Chicken Breas1 Point = 1 Serve of Non Starchy Veggies. Weight Watchers also allows you to gain points as a rewards In our case for eating non starchy vegetables, drinking water and being physically active.
This is a a great way to make losing weight more enjoyable and interactive however the points system is a little bit vague.
From here you be taken on a virtual tour of the calendar tab. Outlining all the functions and features you can utilise with the Weight Watchers platform.
Here you will be able to track your daily food budget, physical activity, track your sleep, explore recipe ideas and connect with your friends and other Weight Watchers members.
One of our favourite part of this introduction is the tutorial. It is simple and easy to follow, and despite what you may think it is something that even the biggest fitness apps overlook.
Signing up to a fitness app can be extremely anxiety inducing and a little tutorial outlining the features and functions of the app can go a long way to making a new user feel safe and comfortable. Increasing their chances of using the platform and seeing results.
Big tick from us.
On the journey tab you will have access to Weight Watchers suite of challenges.
- Seven Day Strong
- Top Tracker
- Weekend Warrior
- Can’t Stop. Won’t Stop.
- Level Up
- Get Moving
- And More.
These challenges are designed to help you smash your food and exercise goals, helping you knuckle down and get into the swing of things fast.
With tasks ranging from ‘track one meal per day’ to ‘track your minutes of activity from Monday to Sunday.’
Each challenge is outlined with a brief description allowing you to see exactly what you are signing up for before you take the plunge.
These challenges are great. They are small, achievable and help you develop strong habits and a positive relationship with diet and exercise, unlike many fitness challenges which encourage you to smash yourself in the name of ‘results’.
Next up, the discover tab.
Here you will have access to all the programs and guides that the Weight Watchers platform has to offer.
The most valuable thing we found on this page was the ‘WW Program Guide’.
This will completely outline the Weight Watchers program and the in’s and out’s of the points system.
‘Again, we are amazed at the level of education and information found on the Weight Watchers platform.
This gives users every chance to succeed and smash their goals.
The only thing that could make this tab better is maybe a short video explaining the points to make it easier for those of us who struggle with reading large chunks of writing. And maybe a slightly more simple search function to make it easier to find the information you are looking for.
The connect tab is the perfect place to link with friends and find other like minded people going through the same journey to better health.
- Protein Zero Heroes
- Sweet Tooth’s
- WW Challenges
- Back On Track
- Cooking ” Home
No matter where you are in your weight loss journey, there is a group to help you on your way.
This is great because at the start of your fitness journey, the slightest speed bump on the road can can bring all your progress to a halt.
This feature allows you to curate a group to help you stay on the bandwagon.
What We Like About Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers implements basic tutorials and education as well as any other fitness app on the market. It is in depth but simple to understand. Education like this increases users confidence and sense of control and can dramatically increases users chances of success.
Weight Watchers does a great job of utilising a personal questionnaire to find out more about your personal circumstances. This allows them to cater their exercise and nutrition goals to your needs.
The Weight Watchers interface and points system is so incredibly easy to use that almost anyone could use it.
Healthy Habit Focused
The Weight Watchers program encourages users to develop positive relationships with food, encouraging people to eat without feeling guilty. This kind of approach encourages positive long term change rather than short term gain.
Weight Watchers Limitations
The points system is fun and adds an element of flare to the dieting process and makes it easier for new users to get into the swing of things. However, it is a bit vague. For example, assigning people zero points for snacks like chicken breast may help users stay full and make better decisions but no matter how healthy chicken breast is, if you eat too much of it each day you will put on weight. Weight Watchers appears to try and give the user a proverbial fish rather than teach them how to fish. We think that Weight Watchers would really benefit from a basic calorie and macro nutrient tracker to help users gain a better understanding of exactly what is going into their food.
Only Really Caters To Weight Loss
As is the name, Weight Watchers mainly focuses on helping users lose weight. Limiting its use cases for users with broader goals rather than simply weight loss.
Weight Watchers is a great health and fitness app but it completely lacks any form of basic fitness programs. Which is a big part of the health and fitness puzzle to overlook.
No Calorie Or Macro Nutrient Breakdown
The points budget system is a great way to add a bit of fun into the weight loss process but it does not educate users on the importance of macro nutrients and calories, restricting the amount of control they have over their journey.
Weight Watchers: The Bottom Line
Weight Watchers is a subscription based weight loss app that utilises personalised weight loss programs to help you smash your goals.
But is Weight Watchers actually any good?
Yes! Weight Watchers is an absolutely outstanding health and wellness application. it is simple and easy to use and educates users as well as any other fitness app on the marker.
The only things hold the Weight Watchers app back is the lack of exercise programs, sole focus on weight loss and although the points budget system is an effective way to add a little bit of fun to weight loss. It does not give users all the information they need to take complete control over their health.
